The Lincoln Hypothesis

For Master Class this week we read 'The Lincoln Hypothesis' by Timothy Ballard. As you can imagine it was about the Civil War and how Ballard's thoughts on how it applies to the Book of Mormon, and conversion and modern day slavery. (He is a modern day abolitionist who fights against modern day slavery, especially child sex-trafficking. Here is what he does if you want to find out more.)

There were a lot of great insights and A-Ha's through out the whole book. I'm just gonna share a few below. :)

  • Lincoln was one of the greatest followers of God and His teachings. He openly told people, " I talk to God... When I could not see any other resort, I would place my whole reliance in God, knowing that all would be well, and that He would decide for the right." I think he is a great example in this way. When he didn't see another way out of his own misery (and the nation's) he turned to God. Which is exactly what God wants us to do. "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28) We all need to follow his example in following God, even when we feel it's hard. He followed God no matter what, and I'm sure without it, this country would not be here today.
  • Lincoln did what he was told, if he was told from God. Can you imagine how scared you would be if you had a prompting to change your whole look on your presidency and create something called the Emancipating Proclamation which banned all slavery in the south?? That is freaking terrifying! But Honest Abe did it, even though he knew he would be ridiculed and criticized for doing something like that. He did it because he knew that God wanted him to. Even when it would eventually lead to his death.
  • Lincoln learned something that we all need to learn if this nation is going to be saved: "The lesson for America today is clear: no matter how difficult or impossible the challenges may appear (and we have many such challenges), there is always a clear way out, and it always begins with turning the nation back to God." and that is exactly what Abraham Lincoln did. He took this nation and brought it back to how it was when the Founding Father's created it: God-Driven. We need to take a stand and do this ourselves. As Ballard put it, "I pray we will take our cues from Washington and Lincoln, who learned the secret and masterfully employed it. I pray we will turn America back to its God! Turn America back to its covenant! If we don't do it, who will?" (Bold added)
I pray that we all will take a stand to fight against what this nation is coming to. I know that many will not agree with me on this stand with Lincoln, but Ballard said so himself. He wants us to read the book and put it on trial ourselves. And invite you all to do just that. Read the book 'The Lincoln Hypothesis' and see his logic and tell me what you think.

-Amen.
